CBC Book Awards runs one book award competition and several essay and design competitions each year. We pay tribute to books and essays that teach character-building lessons through fiction or nonfiction writing categories. We are looking for books and essays that will generate ripples of goodness and decency in a communal pond that is thirsty for safety, security, and peace of mind.

Building character is a daily effort. Consider these everyday questions:

  • Is it okay for students to cheat on exams in order to get into the colleges of their choice?
  • Is it acceptable for employees to take home company supplies … just because they can?
  • Should parents look the other way when children lie to them to avoid punishment?
  • Is it all right for spouses to circumvent the truth about who they were with and when?

Character extends outward from individual children and adults into families, neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, and society at large. Join us as we build a kinder, safer world by concentrating—first and foremost—on being honorable and responsible citizens.

“Let us answer a book of ink with a book of flesh and blood.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
